So yesterday was long…travelling out of town crazy early (the first two pictures are 5:30am stripes on my bedroom wall) and then seeing my mum briefly and arriving back in town and racing over to the

Austin Gallery on Bethnal Green Road where there was a stupid skateboard display outside and

26

Lils has her exhibition – D.A. Activist. It was at

19

Gallery de Vie in Hong Kong and has now transfered back to London, via a little break in customs…

Lils collaborated with

” D.A.ACTIVIST is a womenswear collection of digitally printed artwork on clothing, cut to rectangular freeform shapes, made with an ethical practice. The collection takes it starting point from a photograph by Finnish photographer Jan Kaila of the beautiful eccentric Mr. Elis Sinistö, wearing a life-size rectangular board round his neck – like a man wearing a work of art. A subtle and intimate form of design and art activism, art and fashion combine to ask questions about human life:  how we live, what impact do we have on the environment and other living beings.

I am a huge fan of Lils and her work, its soft, its caring, it allows you to breathe…no pressures allowed, simplicity at its most necessary. She could be seen as a Singapore version of

Matthew Ames or

12

Damir Doma, I stress the “could”, because really she’s just herself…with an encyclopedic knowledge of Yohji Yamamoto. Plus I love the shadows the coat hangers make on the walls and also the Singapore snacks…(see photos above).

Anyway the exhibition is on till the 28th of February.
