adoration
This is a photographic essay of a multitude of things I like/love/worship/adore/LA/BOSS/LA – no words to describe, no reasons, everything should be clear, clear as mountain water straight from it’s Alpine source. I have been writing a tonne about television, its nicer to write about that then fashion, I could write about fashion but other people do it so eloquently and I might bore because I’d obsess about how a seam was stitched and the technical gymnastics used to achieve such seams. Plus I have more to say about television.

work-in-progress
So today, I got back to London, one of those train journeys where you properly notice surburban style and kids playing at being ghetto and it all seemed quite sweet and vunerable as I listened toMassive Attack. I was supposed to go to the Royal College of Art to see the work in progress exhibition by the Fashion and Textiles department, on Saturday but it was raining and I woke late after a super-pleasant evening the night before and meeting Zoe, then Beecho and Miller extended into running for the train home.
I remember from when I took part in the same exhibiton it felt super crowded in the space, this massive assault on the visionary senses, but today there seemed to be gallons of space. Everyone was mixed up, in some sort of colour story (which I think I missed), so you had to look at the label to see what department they were from. There was some super-nice work, I wished I could have taken some more photos, but some vicious girl was properly on the “no-photo” rule, which is a shame, because I could have taken more (and should have), but when you have some post-graduate gestapo-esque girl, possibly from the textiles department, monitioring your every move like the Terminator searching for John Connor…you just have to shrug your shoulders.
So, I wished I could have shown you the marvel that was Marie Parsons jewelry, made from found-objects, Tomislav Mostecak was very rock ‘n’ roll with camouflage silk over washed-out denim and Matthew says that Tomislav is going to be tattooing pig-skin and I am looking forward to seeing Simone and Vicky’s collections.
So here are some photos:

Thats all…such a shame, such a shame, but such is life and girls with an hours worth of authority
So to make it up, I’ll feature those I missed in the next few weeks that’ll be nicer.
trash humpers

last saturday we went to the BFT, screen1 and saw Harmony Korine’s new film
66
“Trash Humpers”
he said before the film started that it wasn’t a film, more like an artefact, something that is found in a bloodstained ziplock bag
it had that feeling, shot in a similar style to
31
Gummo
like a homevideo from the late ’80′s, filmed in his home town of Nashville, Tennesee
full of bizarre behaviour that you strangely get used to quite quickly
some people infront of us walked out, maybe it was too provocative for them
Harmony did tell people to go if it was too much, but before the film started (they left 20mins in)
heĀ cut the film on two VCR’s to create a sense of randomness
he plays one of the trash humpers – becoming both an actor as well as director and cinematographer
amongst it all there were some beauty shots
some amazing characters, who are from the area of Nashville where Harmony resides
i liked it
everyone i saw it with liked it
and Harmony was there…brilliant
eyes wide open

last night jessica and I went to see the film

EYES WIDE OPEN
an Israeli film by Haim Tabakman
we are both super fascinated by the orthdox jewish community
this film also looked at another aspect, that of being a homosexual orthodox jew
the way it had been shot made it look like a

jonas bendiksen photo
like they’d deliberately left the lens dusty
there were such tender moments, it never really went for too many stereotypical cliches
i remember those blink and you miss them moments the most
when they are grinding meat and he puts his hand on ezri’s back
the inbetween sections
i liked this film, it was sort of everything i assumed it might be
plus it was great to see some israeli cinema
and the director did a mini Q&A after the screening
pleasant
last weekend, i went to watch two of my friends super8 film that they were showing as part of a group show
one of nine
it was a show of collaborations between musicians and artists/designers mainly from singapore
(thats where my friend lils is from)
there were no briefs, no outcomes to fulfill, just an exploration
at times it felt slightly matmos, slightly obvious, there were nice suprises
like the lady singing opera accompanied by a harp
that made fall in love a million times over
shipwrecked accordian sounds
and
lils and jessica’s film was a super8 fuelled affair, i love the sugarpaper quality of this format, how it reeks of nostalgia and with lils narration in her soft scotland/singapore accent, it was sublime, with a live piano backing
it was a lovely afternoon with free sugary soy bean drinks
i took some photos but i have decided not to include them
but…
lils wore a black margiela dress and a knapsack
jessica had newly dyed black hair and one of my toiles on
jenny keep wore a grey denim jacket and sock boots
nora wore a black and purple dress
yolanda wore a peruvian top with a wide-leg trouser
me, i wore a margiela army jumper and clarks original brown boots
fashion east spring/summer 2010 (backstage with heikki salonen and holly fulton)
sometimes i just feel lucky with some of the people i know, two of my friends from royal college showed this lunchtime as part of fashion east. holly fulton is on her second season and heikki salonen his first. both are completely different designers in many many ways, but both make clothes that are desirable, forward thinking and full of clever ingenuity. here are some quick snapshots from backstage…

white cubicle

last night we went to the george and dragon on hackney road to see the unveiling of julie verhoeven’s installation in the ladies toilet, known as “the white cubicle”.there was a genial atmosphere and no-one was too rowdy from all the free vodka, i liked how each glass came with a different mixer, so you never got bored and it felt like a vodka pix ‘n’ mix.
julie v. wore a sarah easom dress
zoe d. wore a dirty tangering crepe blouse and her guy fawkes shoes
hayley beech wore a vintage band teeshirt and high waisted shorts
